Empower

Maloto helped establish Kwithu Kitchen – the first women-owned food-processing cooperative in the north of Malawi. Kwithu Kitchen is now the country’s largest honey processor and supplier.  Maloto also supports women’s agricultural cooperatives to help vulnerable women become more financial stable and self-sufficient.

Program Need

Gender inequality remains a major challenge in Malawi and throughout much of Africa. Women have limited access to and control of property, resources and employment, and the education of girls is still less valued than that of boys. Women need to be empowered and encouraged to participate in economic activities. Maloto’s support of women-owned cooperatives is a critical step toward ensuring children’s wellbeing and the ending the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
