Maloto supports education from early childhood through university, helping children and young people in northern Malawi gain the skills and opportunities they need to build better futures.
Our educational programs are centered at Mzuzu International Academy (MIA) and the Kwithu Community Organization, where children can access early childhood education, tutoring, scholarships, and other academic support.
Mzuzu International Academy is northern Malawi’s first internationally accredited primary and secondary school.
Opened in 2007 with just 35 students, MIA has grown to nearly 500 students from kindergarten through the final year of secondary school. More than 40 students from the surrounding community attend on full scholarships, giving talented children access to an education that might otherwise be beyond their reach.
MIA’s goal is not simply academic achievement, but to prepare young people with the knowledge, confidence, and values to become future leaders in Malawi.

As the surrounding community has grown, local families have made clear the need for another quality primary school. Maloto and the Kwithu Women’s Group are responding by building a new primary school in Mzuzu’s Luwinga community.
With major support from donors, the new school represents the next major expansion of Kwithu’s education work. The school will provide children from the surrounding community with access to a safe, high-quality learning environment close to home and is planned to open in January 2027.
